Welcome to Epic Life Fitness, home of ELF Nation!

Epic Life Fitness is not your typical gym. Instead, it is a personal training and small-group fitness studio located in Downtown Dayton, Ohio.

It was founded in 2014 by local radio personality and Certified Personal Trainer Scott Epic.

E.L.F. recently moved into its new home at 118 N. Jefferson Street in September 2015.

The mission of E.L.F. is to help as many people as possible realize a better quality of life, the Epic Life if you will, through exercise, nutrition, and community. We offer one-on-one personal training, tandem personal training, our very popular Catalyst small group classes, outings, and volunteer opportunities. This, in combination with personalized information and amazing support, helps our clients successfully navigate through their journey to an Epic Life!

The Optimal Performance Training Model

Epic Life Fitness employs The Optimal Performance Training Model (OPT), which was developed by The National Academy of Sports Medicine in conjunction with the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill as a systematic and progressive training template. It is appropriate for all goals and all levels of fitness. The OPT Model is made up of 3 levels containing 5 phases:

  • Level 1: Stabilization
    • Phase 1: Stabilization Endurance Training
  • Level 2: Strength
    • Phase 2: Strength Endurance Training
    • Phase 3: Hypertrophy Training
    • Phase 4: Maximal Strength Training
  • Level 3: Power
    • Phase 5: Power Training

Based on your assessments, goals, and abilities, you will begin in one of these 5 phases. As the name would imply, each phase has specific goals, mainly a safe progression to optimal levels of fitness. Each phase can last anywhere from 4-6 weeks before a new routine is started.

There are several assessments we will perform in the beginning and throughout your program. These may include a static postural assessment, dynamic postural assessment, overhead squat assessment, single leg squat assessment, upper and lower extremity strength/agility assessments, and cardiorespiratory assessments.

Each of these will help us determine the appropriate starting phase of training and will be repeated every 4 to 6 weeks to gauge correction and performance progressions. In addition to these assessments we may also track BMI, body fat %, circumference measurements, blood pressure, resting heart rate, and weight. Keeping track of these numbers will help ensure we are getting the desired results from the routine and can also be a great motivator!

Different Types of OPT Training

– Resistance Training (Weights)

– Cardiorespiratory Training

– Core Training

– Plyometric (Jump) Training

– Flexibility Training

– Balance Training

Each form of training has many benefits and can be incorporated, or not, based on assessments, goals, and your desire. The path to new levels of fitness really is a journey. There will be days of incredible motivation and days of “take this dumbbell and shove it!” It’s important to understand that this ebb and flow is a normal part of the road to change.

The goal of Epic Life Fitness is that through our time together, you will develop a lifetime love of fitness and all the great benefits that come along with it. We will be here to help keep you motivated, ensure safe progression toward your goals, to educate, and to answer questions along the way.

Epic Life Fitness is committed to you and your success. We are now a team. We provide the vehicle, you supply the power. Together, we will achieve your goals!
